Womad 2026
Tree Projections Proposal
Project Overview:
The objective is to transform the a natural surroundings of the new WOMAD site into an immersive, night-time visual landscape. By utilising large-scale projection mapping, we will celebrate the festival’s core values of global inclusivity while enhancing the physical environment for the audience.
Proposal SummaryA visual installation that transforms the natural backdrop to the crowd of the WOMAD Main Stage. By utilising the existing large oak trees as the canvas, will create an immersive, visual experience that envelops the audience without the need for physical set building or single-use materials.
The Living Canopy“The Living Canopy” will animate the festival grounds with a visual narrative of organic growth, global art, and rhythmic movement, featuring visual inspirations curated by Peter Gabriel. This piece will be designed in collaboration with wider Womad site visual estiques, ensuring a cohesive visual experience.
The Visuals
The visual narrative is designed as a living, breathing ecosystem rather than a static video loop. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and the invisible threads of our collective human experience, the projection will fluidly morph abstract artistic expressions.
To maintain a sense of wonder, we will utilise a dynamic layering technique that mixes and overlays content in real-time. This approach ensures the composition is never the same twice, guaranteeing that every time an audience member looks up, they witness a unique, ephemeral moment of art.
Crucially, the artistic direction will be deeply anchored by the references selected by Peter Gabriel. We will work closely with the WOMAD creative team to weave these specific influences into the animation, ensuring the final aesthetic aligns seamlessly with the festival’s mission and visual identity.

LOSS><GAIN x Sigor Rós:
Takk 25th Album Anniversary
Commissioned by Loss><Gain for the 2025–2026 European immersive spatial audio tour of Sigur Rós’s Album, Takk, I designed a non-literal, immersive light installation to complement Loss><Gain’s version of the album. Moving away from traditional screens, the design utilised tangible beams of light and layered projections that acted as a live, architectural mediator for the music. By blending rhythmic, hard-edged beams with soft atmospheric washes, the installation formed dynamic volumes of light that listeners could experience without distracting from the spatial audio attraction.
“As makers of Spatial Audio experiences, Loss Gain asked George to create and deliver an original 65-minute projection piece to accompany our 360-degree immersive re-imagining of Sigur Rós’ Takk album on the occasion of the record’s 20th anniversary.
The final delivery was a perfect representation of what we had first envisioned, embodying precisely the right degrees of subtlety and drama to best represent this landmark album. George approached the project with characteristic dedication and commitment, while also working within the strictures of a modest budget. Loss Gain would highly recommend him to any organisation considering working with him.”
