Womad 2026

Tree Projections Proposal

Project Overview:

The objective is to transform the a natural surroundings of the new WOMAD site into an immersive, night-time visual landscape. By utilising large-scale projection mapping, we will celebrate the festival’s core values of global inclusivity while enhancing the physical environment for the audience.

Proposal Summary

A visual installation that transforms the natural backdrop to the crowd of the WOMAD Main Stage. By utilising the existing large oak trees as the canvas, will create an immersive, visual experience that envelops the audience without the need for physical set building or single-use materials.

The Living Canopy

Using projection mapping, “The Living Canopy” will animate the festival grounds with a visual narrative of organic growth, global art, and rhythmic movement, featuring visual inspirations curated by Peter Gabriel. This piece will be designed in collaboration with wider Womad site visual estiques, ensuring a cohesive visual experience.

The Visuals

The visual narrative is designed as a living, breathing ecosystem rather than a static video loop. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and the invisible threads of our collective human experience, the projection will fluidly morph abstract artistic expressions.

To maintain a sense of wonder, we will utilise a dynamic layering technique that mixes and overlays content in real-time. This approach ensures the composition is never the same twice, guaranteeing that every time an audience member looks up, they witness a unique, ephemeral moment of art.

Crucially, the artistic direction will be deeply anchored by the references selected by Peter Gabriel. We will work closely with the WOMAD creative team to weave these specific influences into the animation, ensuring the final aesthetic aligns seamlessly with the festival’s mission and visual identity.

Sigor Ros:
Takk 25th Album Anniversary

Commissioned by Loss><Gain in partnership with Sigor Ros. I was asked to create a visual complement to the 360 spatial audio version of the album, Takk. The concept was to design an experience where the audience would focus on the beams of the projection rather than the final canvas the project would hit. This experience toured Europe in 2025 and into 2026, at venues in London, Amsterdam, Paris Brighton, Berlin, Barcelona, Hesselt, Bologna, and many more.

“We commissioned George to create an original conceptual projection piece that would complement our 360 spatial audio reimaging of the Sigor Ros Album, Takk for its 25th Anniversary. The final delivery was perfect outcome to what we had envisioned, George’s commitment to delivering this collaborative project was greatly appreciated and we would highly recommend him to any organisation considering working with him.”
